London J. M. Dent & Sons 1928 Revised Hard Cover Fair No Jacket 16mo 
230 pp. Red cloth covers, with gilt lettering, are stained, marked, scuffed. Corners are worn and frayed. Front and back gutters are split, showing mesh. Decorated endpapers have a few inked scribbles and a little abrasion. A section of the rear free endpaper has been torn away. Upper edge of text block is tinted green, but tinting is worn and fading. Previous owner has inked a line map of the Battle of Arbela and a list titled "Rise of Macedonia" on the front flyleaf. Otherwise, internally unmarked; solidly bound. This edition (1928) contains considerably more maps and other content than did the earliest editions. There are more than 40 colour maps and another 19 line maps of cities (Pompei, Thebes, Babylon, etc) and battlefields (Marathon, Salamis, etc). Extensive gazetteer and index.

482 pp + 64-pp appendix. Light edgewear to red composite blind-stamped boards. Bright gilt lettering to backstrip and upper board. All edges marbled. Binding is solid throughout. Despite corners being rounded, lower front corner is a little bumped and frayed. Small tear to upper corner of title page. Some of the maps have been unfolded and folded many times, and have quite a bit of wrinkling and occasional small tears; the worst is a closed 2-1/2" tear to the first map. Original bookseller's stamp (Brentano's, Booksellers & Stationers, 37, Avenue de l'Opera, Paris) to rear pastedown. Internally unmarked. With 66 maps and plans. Two bound-in placekeeping ribbons, a little grubby at the ends.
