238 pp. Green cloth boards faded and stained. Foxing to edges of text block. A little faint foxing to eps and first and last few pages. Internally unmarked; solidly bound. "This book is based upon a series of 8 lectures delivered at Cambridge mainly to medical students. It is essentially medical (about illness), and clinical (dealing with cases, giving their history and their main symptoms and the explanations of these). Theoretical discussion cannot be avoided, because the explanations offered are based upon a theory about the development of the mind and its unconscious motives which is still unfamiliar to many people."

7 Trevor Roper, Patrick The World Through Blunted Sight: An inquiry into the influence of defective vision on art and character
U.S.A. Souvenir Press 1997 028563397X / 9780285633971 First Thus Paperback Near Fine Octavo
207 pp. Very light general and edgewear to illustrated covers. All else as new. Colour plates. Black-and-white illustrations in the text. Appendix, references, index. A new and updated edition of this classic work. "Was Impressionism born of a generation of short-sighted artists? Was Constable's fondness for autumnal tints due to colour blindness? Did Modigliani actually see his nutes as unnaturally elongated through distorted sight? Leonardo, Rembrandt and Titian all suffered from increasing long-sightedness in old age -- is this the cause of the loss of detail in their later paintings?"
